“Guiding this emotional tempest is Eugene’s Orchestra Next performing Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev’s original score, which has never been played live with the Eugene Ballet’s production.

“Anytime we get to present a performance with live music, it’s the ultimate goal,” Pimble said. “This will be a first for us, and we’re thrilled.”

Now in its sixth season, Orchestra Next was founded by conductor and University of Oregon professor Brian McWhorter.

“Prokofiev’s score to ‘Romeo & Juliet’ is so ridiculously full of color and drama, it often sounds like the score itself is bursting apart at the seams,” McWhorter said. “It’s like there isn’t big enough paper to hold all his ideas.””
